How Contactless Parking Payment Works

TL;DR: At Entry2Exit, we build parking management systems where drivers can enter and exit a car park without ever getting out the vehicle. Using ANPR cameras, automatic barriers, and contactless parking payment options like QR codes, tap-and-go NFC, and mobile wallets, we make the entire parking experience seamless. Drivers can pay in under five seconds – or even before they reach the exit gate – so the barrier lifts the moment their number plate is detected. No tickets, no queues, no hassle.

Why Contactless Parking Payment Is Replacing the Old Way

If you’ve parked in the Middle East or anywhere with legacy parking systems, you probably know the drill: a staff member walks up to your car, writes out a paper ticket, you keep it safe for hours, and then you queue at a booth on your way out while someone manually calculates your fee. It’s slow, it’s contact-heavy, and it doesn’t scale.

That model is disappearing fast. Drivers today expect the same frictionless experience they get when tapping their phone at a coffee shop. They don’t want to fumble for cash or wait behind six cars at a single manned booth. And parking operators? They want to cut staffing costs, reduce human error, and run their facilities around the clock without worrying about shift coverage.

That’s exactly why we built our contactless parking payment system at Entry2Exit – to give both sides what they need.

How Our Contactless Parking Payment System Actually Works

Here’s the real-world flow, step by step.

Entry: A car approaches the entry barrier. Our ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera reads the number plate in real time. The barrier lifts in a split second. No ticket dispensed, no button pressed. The driver just drives in.

During the visit: The system logs the vehicle’s entry time and plate number. The driver goes about their day – shopping, working, whatever brought them there.

Payment before exit: This is where the contactless magic happens. The driver has multiple ways to pay, and none of them require standing in a queue or handing over cash to someone.

Exit: Once payment is confirmed, the driver approaches the exit barrier. The ANPR camera reads the plate again, matches it against the paid records, and the barrier lifts automatically. In many of our deployments, the driver doesn’t even need to stop – the barrier is already open by the time they reach it.

The entire cycle, from entry to exit, can happen without the driver ever interacting with a single person.

Contactless Parking Payment Options We Offer

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Different facilities have different parking access control needs, so we offer a range of payment methods that can be mixed and matched.

QR Code Payments: A unique QR code is displayed at the kiosk, on signage, or on printed posters throughout the facility. Drivers scan the code from inside their car, enter their number plate on the payment page, and pay using cards, mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay), internet banking, or any regional payment provider. The beauty of QR codes is that we can place them everywhere – elevator lobbies, stairwells, near building exits – so drivers can pay well before they even walk back to their car.

Tap-and-Go (NFC): Drivers tap any NFC-enabled card or device on the kiosk reader. Payment processes in seconds. This is the fastest option and the one we see gaining the most traction in high-throughput car parks.

Cash (Optional): For facilities that still want a cash lane, we provide portable POS devices with receipt printing. A parking staff member handles the transaction. This is the only option that involves human contact – and it’s entirely optional.

Deployment Configurations for Contactless Parking Payment

How these payment options are physically set up depends on the facility.

For fully automated 24/7 car parks, a self-service kiosk is the most common setup. The kiosk houses the QR code display, the NFC tap reader, and an intercom for customer support. No staff needed on-site – support agents can even work remotely and assist drivers through the intercom.

For manned facilities, we pair the kiosk with a staff station for cash collection, so you get the best of both worlds.

For minimal setups, even just printed QR code posters placed strategically around the premises can work. Drivers pay on their phone, walk to their car, and drive out. The barrier handles the rest.

We can also integrate with your preferred banking partner for payment processing, or leverage our existing partnerships with popular banks in the region for faster deployment.

see contactless parking payments in action

We recently deployed our system at The Curve Building in Dubai. It’s a fully contactless setup with QR code and tap-and-go payments at the kiosks. Drivers entering and exiting the facility experience zero wait times – the ANPR cameras and automated barriers handle everything.

Another project we’re proud of is Q1 Mall in Al Warqa, Dubai. Here, the client wanted contactless options alongside a cash lane. So we set up QR code payments, tap-and-go NFC, mobile wallet support, and added a POS device with receipt printing for drivers who prefer paying with cash. It’s a good example of how flexible the system is – you pick the combination that fits your operation.

These are just two examples. We have many more references across the UAE and beyond, and our sales team is always happy to walk you through them.

The Cost and Staffing Advantage

Here’s something parking operators notice quickly: contactless parking payment dramatically reduces staffing requirements. A fully automated car park can run 24/7 with remote support staff handling intercom queries from home. You don’t need someone in a booth at 2 AM. You don’t need three shift rotations. The kiosk does the work, the ANPR cameras verify plates, and the barriers operate themselves.

The savings compound over time, especially for multi-level facilities or operators managing several locations.

Already Have a Parking System? We Can Help

If you’re a parking management solution provider with an existing system and you’re looking to add contactless payment capabilities, we can work with you on integration. Our payment modules are designed to plug into third-party systems, so you don’t need to rip and replace – just layer on the contactless experience your customers are asking for.

FAQ

What is contactless parking payment? Contactless parking payment means drivers can pay for parking without physically handling cash, tickets, or interacting with staff. Payment is made digitally through QR codes, NFC tap-and-go, mobile wallets, or online banking – usually at a kiosk or even on a phone before reaching the exit.

How does the QR code parking payment work? A QR code is displayed on a kiosk or printed signage around the facility. Drivers scan it with their phone camera, enter their vehicle’s number plate on the payment page, and complete the transaction using their preferred digital payment method.

What payment methods are supported? Our system supports credit and debit cards, mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay), internet banking, and region-specific online payment providers. Cash payment is also available as an optional add-on with a POS device.

Do drivers need to download an app? No. The QR code opens a mobile-friendly web page – no app installation required. Tap-and-go works with any NFC-enabled card or device the driver already carries.

What happens if a driver has trouble paying at the kiosk? Every kiosk includes an intercom connected to our support team. A support agent can assist the driver in real time. In some deployments, support staff work remotely, which further reduces on-site staffing costs.

Can contactless parking payment work with existing parking systems? Yes. If you already have a parking management system and want to add contactless payment, our team can integrate our payment modules with your existing infrastructure. Reach out to our sales team to discuss your setup.

Is cash payment still available? Cash is entirely optional. If a facility wants to offer it, we provide a portable POS device with receipt printing. If you want a 100% contactless, zero-human-contact operation, you can skip the cash option entirely.

How fast is the exit process? In most of our deployments, drivers who’ve pre-paid (via QR code inside the building, for example) exit without stopping at all – the ANPR camera reads the plate and the barrier lifts automatically. Even at the kiosk, tap-and-go payments take just a few seconds.

Where has Entry2Exit deployed contactless parking payment? Recent projects include The Curve Building in Dubai (QR code + tap-and-go) and Q1 Mall in Al Warqa (QR code + tap-and-go + mobile wallets + cash POS). We have many more references available – contact our sales team for a full portfolio.
